NUTS

Almond (Prunus dulcis or Amygdalus communis)

In Israel it is common practice to plant this tree as a memorial tree. The Lebanese believe almonds restore virility, whereas in Ayurvedic medicine they are considered aphrodesisiacs.

Almonds are among the best known nuts and are sometimes known as the "King of the nuts". This is because of their rich nutrient value. They are particularly high in calcium, potassium, lysine Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) and Vitamin B3 (Niacin).

Brazil Nuts (Bertholettia excelsa)

These nuts contain high amounts of Vitamin E and selenium, both antioxidants, which may help to slow the formation of cataracts. Brazil nuts also contain SAM-e (S-adenosyl-methionine), which has been shown to properties similar to the pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory characteristics of ibuprofen. These nuts are also high in fiber, lecithin, phosphorus and Vitamin B1 (thiamine/thiamin).

Walnuts, English (Juglans regia)

Walnuts are named as being one of King Solomon's most valuable trees. The Greeks and Romans considered walnuts to be a symbol of fertility. Traditionally Asians use walnut kernels to treat lung and laryngeal disorders. Crushed walnut leaves are used as insect repellants.

Walnuts are high in protein, phosphorus, iron, beta-carotene, serotonin and its cerebral precursor tryptophan. Serotonin can boost your "mood", help to control hunger and may prevent over eating.
